Top Step’s Top 5 Features of the SuiteProjects Pro Spring 2025 Release

The Spring 2025 release of SuiteProjects Pro has arrived, bringing exciting updates that strengthen Oracle NetSuite’s professional services platform. While the rebranding from OpenAir to SuiteProjects Pro takes center stage, this release also delivers practical enhancements that improve collaboration, search capabilities, and administrative control. Available in all production environments since April 12th, here’s our expert breakdown of the five most impactful features your team should know about:

1. Rebranding from OpenAir to SuiteProjects Pro

Oracle NetSuite OpenAir is now Oracle NetSuite SuiteProjects Pro!

In addition to the visible changes to the sign-in page, user interface, URLs, and domain names that were implemented back in January, the April 2025 release includes updated versions of the following software applications which integrate with SuiteProjects Pro:

  • SuiteProjects Pro Mobile 5.2
  • SuiteProjects Pro Exchange Integration Manager 5.3.1
  • SuiteProjects Pro Integration Manager 7.2.1
  • SuiteProjects Pro OffLine 3.5.1
  • SuiteProjects Pro Outlook Connector 2.4.0
  • SuiteProjects Pro Project Connector 4.6.0

Each version above is now available for users to install and/or update from the previous version and includes the replacement of all references to “OpenAir” with “SuiteProjects Pro.” Apart from a new time card template feature available in SuiteProjects Pro Mobile 5.2, all other new versions in this list maintain the same functionality as their immediately preceding versions.

2. Expansion of Global Search

Global Search, implemented within SuiteProjects Pro in the fall release, allows users to search and directly navigate to specific records from anywhere within the platform.

  • Prior to the 2025.1 release, Global Search only included records related to Navigation, Clients, Projects, and Users. The spring release adds 8 new searchable objects: Bookings, Expense Reports, Milestones, Phases, Receipts, Tasks, Workspaces, and Workspace Documents.

All new objects are automatically included in Global Search, but administrators can disable them by navigating to Administration > Account > Global Search and clicking the “Remove” link at the top right corner of any object.

  • Users can now search for projects using their internal ID, making it easier to locate specific projects when you have their reference numbers. For now, this functionality is limited to project internal IDs only.

3. Project Discussions

A simple but powerful new feature in this release is Project Discussions, which allows users to collaborate and track information pertaining to a particular project via a singular ongoing message thread.

Once enabled, users will see the discussions icon  at the top right of every page:

  • When clicked from a non-project page, the main Project Discussions window appears, allowing you to search for a specific project. Click on the project name to open that project’s discussion thread. If no Project Discussions have been created yet, this list will be empty.

  • When clicked from within a project, the discussions thread for that particular project will open. From here, users can read or post new messages to the discussion. Users can edit or delete their own messages, and administrators can delete any messages.

Administrators can enable Project Discussions via Administration > Application Settings > Projects > Other Settings > “Enable project discussions.”

Important notes:

  • Project Discussions are not available for users accessing SuiteProjects Pro via proxy or with a guest license.
  • Users without access to the Projects module will still see the Project Discussions button at the top right of each page. These users cannot view any discussion threads, but they can currently see the list of all projects (project names) with active discussions when clicking on the icon.

4. New Role Permissions

Several new role permissions for Invoices and Resources are now available. All new role permissions must be manually enabled by administrators via Administration > Users > Roles.

Invoices: Bulk Actions

The role permission Disallow the use of bulk actions in invoices list view can now be enabled to remove the bulk actions icon from the invoices list view and prevent users from performing bulk invoice actions.

Resources: Change to Resource Demand Request

For instances utilizing SuiteProjects Pro’s Resource Demand Request feature, the role permission Disallow employee to finalize resource requests can now be toggled to remove the “Resource Request Finalize” button from the resource request window, preventing users from finalizing/approving bookings contained in resource requests.

Resources: Changes to the Advanced Booking Worksheet

The following role permissions have been added to control the booking period granularity options within the Advanced Booking Worksheet by role:

  • Disable Daily option in Advanced Booking Worksheet
  • Disable Weekly option in Advanced Booking Worksheet
  • Disable Bi-weekly option in Advanced Booking Worksheet
  • Disable Semi-monthly option in Advanced Booking Worksheet
  • Disable Monthly option in Advanced Booking Worksheet
  • Disable Quarterly option in Advanced Booking Worksheet
  • Disable Annual option in Advanced Booking Worksheet

These permissions provide greater flexibility in controlling what booking period options are available to different user roles.

5. Updates to the NetSuite Connector

The latest versions of the NetSuite bundles with the SuiteProjects Pro 2025.1 release include the rebranding from “OpenAir” to “SuiteProjects Pro” terminology.

Important: The 2020.1 SOAP web services endpoint used in the NetSuite/SuiteProjects Pro integration will no longer be supported as of the SuiteProjects Pro 2025.1 release. Prior to October 2025, users should upgrade to the 2023.1 Communication Endpoint to ensure the NetSuite/SuiteProjects Pro integration continues to function properly.

To update your endpoint:

  1. In SuiteProjects Pro, navigate to Administration > NetSuite Connector
  2. Click the Tips button (lightbulb icon) > NetSuite Connector Administration
  3. Under Other Features, check the “Use 2023.1 communication endpoint” setting and Save
  4. Click the Tips button again and click “Synchronize NetSuite custom fields”
