Top Step’s Top 5 Features of the OpenAir Fall Release 2023
NetSuite OpenAir’s second release of 2023 includes changes to the Project Center, reporting module, list views, and more. While this release was a bit smaller overall compared to April’s, the latest updates include several usability improvements that have been longstanding wish list items for many end users.
Here are Top Step’s Top 5 features of the NetSuite OpenAir Fall 2023 release:
1. Project Center Enhancement: Ability to View Resource Costs and Time Charges
The Project Center now offers the ability to switch between two additional views in the grid: User Costs and Time Charges (previously, Hours was the only option). Up to 3 user cost views can be toggled, depending on whether secondary or tertiary loaded costs are enabled in your environment.
Users can also toggle between Actuals = OFF or ON for each view.
.
When Actuals are OFF:
• Hours view displays booked hours
• Costs view displays booked hours x primary/secondary/tertiary loaded cost
• Charges view displays time charge projections based on time billing rule settings
When Actuals are ON:
• Hours view displays worked hours for past dates and booked hours for future dates
• Costs view displays worked hours x primary/secondary/tertiary loaded cost for past dates and booked hours x loaded cost for future dates
• Charges view displays time charges for past dates and time charge projections (based on time billing rule settings) for future dates
2. Project Center Enhancement: Remembered Scrolling Position
A simple update but a good one! Now when you are working in the Project Center, your vertical scrolling position will be maintained if you refresh the page, reopen the Project Center from another tab, or change the grid view from Hours/Costs/Charges.
3. Projects List View Enhancement: Support for Inline Editing
NetSuite OpenAir now allows inline editing of project properties’ fields directly from the Projects list view.
Double-click on a field name in the Projects list view and a cursor (or dropdown) will appear. Once you make your changes and click outside of the field, a “Record was saved” message will appear after a few seconds.
*Note: To use this functionality, you must first have the Inline-Editing in List Views switch enabled in your environment (already enabled for those that use the Project Center).
4. Reporting Enhancement: Support for Multiple Line Content in Downloaded Report Data
Here is a feature that anyone who regularly reports on audit trail history will appreciate. Report data with multiple lines now includes separators in ALL downloadable file types (csv, html, and pdf). Lines are separated by a line break in html and pdf downloads, and by a vertical bar (|) in csv downloads, allowing for easier csv data transformation in Excel/query tools.

The 3 screenshots above show audit trail data as a common example, but the line separators now exist for any data point that contains multiple lines in a downloaded report.
5. Expenses Enhancement: Attachment Thumbnail Column in List Views
A “Thumbnail” column is now available to be added to both the Reports and Receipts list views within the Expenses module. (Note: You must first have the internal switch called “Attachment Viewer and Attachment Thumbnail” enabled.)
Once you have added this column, you can click on a receipt thumbnail to preview it without leaving the page.
